"LIFT TICKET"

Video review

(by Pierre Rondel)

I received my video tape from radiocarbonart and watch it immediately:

It takes you for a 2 hours trip across US (Oregon, Utah, California, Washinton state, etc ...) to visit several areas and beautiful slope sites going from sea cost slope site to high mountain sites, and smooth hills. I appreciated the first sequence close to the golden gate bridge in San Fransisco. Very nice !

You will see plenty of different plane and flying styles: Combat, PSS, semi-scale, DS ...

Big events coverage is also very interresting. What is funny, is to recognize sites, people, or planes I already heard about in QFI, thanks to Brian Laird columns.

The best part of the film remains the DS chapter (around 40 minutes) ! There is only one word to describe it: AMAZING !!!! Just watch Paul Naton flying at 173 mph like a jet or the Joe Wurts demonstration and explanation. waahouuuu !!!

The video editing is extremely good. Digital Video (DV) is a plus to garantee a excellent contrast and color rendering, visual effects, or simply titles.

I'm sensitive to that because I just bought a mini-DV camcorder + a video  editing solution and I can imagine the work and effort to achieve such result.

Sound track is also very good , even if the music become less an less present at the end of the video, maybe to better hear  the noise produced by planes during DS exercice !

I just notice one or two  long sequences which could have been reduced in order to maintain the "rythm" of the video. In addition, video technology shows sometimes its limit during DS flight, when the plane is too fast for the 25 frames per seconds.

In conclusion, Lift Ticket is a great video for soaring enthousiasts to watch alone or with your friends during winter and keep the motivation at a extremely high level until next season. Video format is finally one of the best way to share great moments with other, So a big thank you to Dave Reese and Paul Naton for capturing in the video box such great moments and for giving us the possibility to participate !
